"The most important single ingredient in the formula of success is knowing how to get on with people." - Theodore Roosevelt
Whilst it is true that communication skills are critical to a person's success it is unfortunate that, generally, people are expected to just 'pick it up' through life experiences. Sadly many get it wrong, resulting in ineffective communication, incorrect passing of information, poor leadership, and conflict.
microskills™ offers an amazingly simple way to understand interpersonal communication and to improve the way that people talk to each other.
The microskills™ Approach
In the same way that a spectrum of light can be categorised into a number of identifiable colours and these can then be labelled and used for communication, so can human behaviours. For most one - to - one interactions, six categories can be used so that anything and everything that a person says will be in one of the categories and each category will have a guaranteed, unique effect on the other person. Mastery of the microskills™, therefore, enables someone to control any conversation.
Once a person has learnt to identify and use the six categories of microskills™ they can then combine them in a particular sequence (a 'formula') to deal with different situations they may be faced with. This might include:
· Providing employee feedback · Counselling · Customer Service · Sales · Dealing with difficult people · Staff discipline
This list is by no means exhaustive. The power of microskills™ is that once a trainee has learnt to identify and use them it can easily be adapted to any communication interaction.
Who has used the microskills™ training technique?
We have provided training in the microskills™ approach to a wide and diverse audience, including: · Front line supervisors in manufacturing firms · Academics working in universities · Engineers and technical officers · Women working in voluntary community leadership roles
microskills™ can be conducted as a self-contained workshop or integrated into other training designs.
