What's a 'Lightship' and what has it to do with HR and Training?
I'm often asked where the name for the business came from. What is a 'lightship'?

A lightship is a boat with a tall mast and a beacon light on top.  They served the same purpose as a lighthouse only they were moored out in dangerous sea channels to serve as a guiding light in rough seas, especially where sand banks tended to shift over time.

How often do managers feel 'all at sea' when trying to deal with 'people-issues' in their organisation?  So often those managers are looking for that guiding light to keep them away from trouble and prevent them from floundering on the rocks!  We can offer that guiding light to organisations and the people within them.

Historical Lightships
GPS technology has replaced the need for lightships, and those that weren't scrapped or scuttled can be found preserved as museum pieces.  Fine examples can be seen at the Australian Maritime
Museum at Darling Harbour, Sydney and at the Maritime Museum on Southbank at Brisbane.  You can view photographs of lightships from around the world here.

'Faster-than-Light' Ships
Every Star Trek fan will tell you that the 'Enterprise' is a lightship - it can travel faster than the speed of light.   Lightships are a popular invention of science fiction writers to enable rapid movement around the galaxy and the rest of the universe.  Unfortunately the laws of special relativity tell us that this is an impossibility - we think!   Maybe one day we'll find this to be wrong, and Lightship People Systems will be ready to take our services and products "to brave new worlds"!
